Fuck-Around-And-Do-Nothing Day

Today I had nothing on my plate but a nail appointment in the late afternoon. I thought maybe I'd clean the bathroom and nap. Instead, I finished off my Christmas cards, went to brunch, tracked down an address, found the door to the laundry room, and yes, cleaned the bathroom. I thought for sure I'd sleep til noon since I'd been feeling so tired lately. Wrong. I was up within half an hour of the time I usually get up on days I work. I got tired of just listening to the radio, so I wrote the rest of my Christmas cards and got most of them addressed. I ended up calling my mom (bonus points, Santa) and getting one of them. Later, I tracked down Dilbert by checking public records, which was great, until I opened my address book and found the same address staring me in the face. Sorry, Dilbert.
I must say, finding the door to the laundry room was nice. My new landlord actually spends money on this property and I think I'm going to stay around for a while. You see, when I originally looked at this building, I was told there was laundry in the building, one of my reasons for taking it. When I got to the actual signing, I was told that no, the laundry was broken, and there was a laundromat down the street. I was none too pleased. However, I didn't have anywhere else lined up to live, so I went ahead and signed. Fortunately, the laundromat is only two blocks away and the guy who runs it is a sweetheart. Now, of course, I'll probably only go there for my dry cleaning. Sad perhaps, and a loss of income for the owner of the laundromat, but now I can do laundry when it suits me and I don't have to go as far.
I did almost everything today except read. This may seem odd for a librarian, but I just haven't been able to settle down to it. I have all these books on the HUAC hearings I thought I was going to read, but they sit untouched. I will have to renew them soon, and I'm wondering if I should bother. Since it doesn't look like I've got a gig lined up for January, I guess I might as well.
I looked at Instituto Cervantes' course list for Spanish lessons and finally found a fee schedule. They want me to part with $420 for a month. Maybe I should have been a translator instead of a librarian. Anyway, if anyone knows of something cheaper, let me know. Oh hell, I'm a librarian, I should figure it out myself.
So no, no major earthshattering news. Mom had her hip replaced a week and a half ago, and the opiates haven't mellowed her out any. I'm spending less than 24 hours with my family on Christmas since I have to work both the day before and after. Not happy about that, and my boss is trying to pull the same shit for next year. I gotta talk to somebody about that. I plan to hit the after-Christmas sales after work, since I have to be here. I see Pasarro tomorrow, and we'll get a little tipsy and fed. If i don't post beforehand, Merry Christmas and stuff.
