Saturday Night Jammin' Blues

I went to see Bloody Bess, a modern Jacobean tragedy on Saturday night. It was a good show, you should have gone to see it. Lots of sex and violence. With attractive actors. I listened to Green Day's Bullet in a Bible while watching the almost full moon out that night, the kind that demanded to be howled at. My hormones were starting to rev up. I was all tweaked on creativity, not sleeping well though I had to work all weekend. If this isn't a recipe for restlessness and discontent, nothing is.

Gushing: Lookingglass Alice

Working at the public library has some perks: this week, I got to see some mainstream theater for free. Lookingglass Theatre is currently running Lookingglass Alice and man, was it fun! Very physical, very visual, and very literate. It illuminated some themes that I had missed when I read the original story. Lookingglass Alice proves that Mary Zimmerman is not the only major creative talent at the company, just the most famous. Did I mention how much I like this show? The major influences are the circus arts, including stilts, rope and other acrobatics, and clowning. There's also some hip hop for the kiddies. At only $30 a pop, it's among the cheapest of the downtown theaters, and almost definitely among the best. Oh yes, I enjoyed this show. I don't know how long it's playing for, the web site did not provide those details, so go, go, go!
